How to set up for Margaritas at home: shaker, jigger, citrus tools, glassware choices, and salt rims — practical selection notes for a national audience.

A Margarita is citrus, orange liqueur (or alternative), and agave spirit — shaken cold and usually served on the rocks or up. Home setup is mostly juice tools, a shaker, and a glass that fits ice. This guide stays practical and national; it does not invent tasting scores or claim nearby stock.
Start with the drink page: Margarita. Broader kits: essential home bar tools. Glass shapes: cocktail glassware.
Shaker, jigger, and strainer
Shake Margaritas with ice, then strain. A Boston or cobbler shaker, a double jigger, and a Hawthorne strainer cover the build. Fresh lime juice changes the drink more than almost any specialty gadget.
Citrus tools
A hand juicer or reamer and a sharp knife are enough for most nights. A channel knife or peeler helps if you garnish with a twist. Bottle juice is a convenience tradeoff when fresh fruit is not available.
Glassware choices
Rocks glasses work for on-the-rocks Margaritas. Stemmed Margarita “coupe” glasses are optional and tippier. Highballs suit longer, soda-length builds such as a Paloma-style serve. Match the glass to ice volume, not to Instagram.
Salt rims
Wet the outer rim with lime, then roll in coarse salt (or a Tajín-style chile-lime salt). Keep salt on the outside so it does not fall into the drink. Skip the rim entirely if you prefer a cleaner sip — it is optional, not required for a correct Margarita.
Selection criteria
Prioritize a reliable shaker seal and a jigger you will actually use. Buy salt you like the taste of before buying rim gadgets. Frozen Margarita machines are a hosting niche, not a starter requirement.
