Martini Glasses and Tools.

Practical guide to Martini glassware and bar tools — coupe, Nick & Nora, classic V-glass, mixing glass, strainer, and garnish tools — without fake rankings.

A Martini is a small, cold, spirit-forward drink. The glass mainly controls temperature, aroma, and spill risk — not which gin or vodka you choose. This national guide covers glass shapes and a short tool list. It is not a ranked product test and does not claim any store has a bottle near you.

Drink context: Martini. Related reading: cocktail glassware and essential home bar tools.

Classic V-shaped Martini glass

The wide cone is iconic and shows the drink clearly. It also warms faster and spills more easily than a coupe or Nick & Nora. Choose it when you want the traditional silhouette and will drink promptly while the cocktail is still cold.

Coupe

A stemmed, shallow bowl that is steadier in the hand. Many home bartenders prefer a coupe for Martinis and other “up” drinks because it is less tippy than a V-glass while still presenting a clear, chilled pour.

Nick & Nora

Smaller than many modern Martini glasses, with a rounded bowl. Useful when you want a tighter pour that stays colder longer. If oversized glasses leave you with a warm last sip, step down to this shape.

Mixing glass, spoon, and strainer

Stirred Martinis are built over ice in a mixing glass, then strained. A long bar spoon and a julep or Hawthorne strainer complete the set. Shaking is a style choice for some vodka Martinis; stirring is the classic default for a clear gin Martini.

Jigger and garnish tools

Measure spirit and vermouth with a jigger so ratios stay repeatable. Cocktail picks hold olives; a peeler cuts a lemon twist. None of these tools invent a “best” Martini — they just make the same recipe easier to repeat.

Selection criteria

Prefer dishwasher-safe glassware if you host often. Prefer a smaller bowl if drinks sit. Prefer a mixing glass with enough volume for ice plus a double pour. Skip novelty stems until you know which shape you reach for first.
