What to drink in Türkiye.

Rakı, tea culture, wine, and city bars — a careful overview. Istanbul coverage stays on the destination page.

Tradition notes are not Istanbul inventory. Sparse coverage on the destination page means we have not verified enough venues yet.

Rakı and meze tables

Rakı is an anise-flavored spirit often enjoyed with cold meze and conversation. Dilution with water and ice is common; the ritual is social as much as alcoholic. We only attach a venue pour when a source supports it.

Tea, coffee, and non-alcoholic hospitality

Çay (tea) is everyday hospitality in many settings. Turkish coffee has a distinct preparation and serving style. These drinks matter culturally even when a traveler is primarily looking for nightlife.

Wine and modern bars

Domestic wine regions and contemporary bars in larger cities expand what visitors encounter beyond rakı. Cocktail rooms in Istanbul evolve quickly — treat any “must-order” list with skepticism unless a venue page cites a recent source.

Serving and hours

Licensing and opening hours differ by district. We do not invent happy hours for Istanbul; suggest one when you have an official source.
